I have always loved art and I have always loved learning. As our kids grew up, they always had murals in their bedrooms. Our friends would hire me to paint murals for their kids bedrooms. A couple of businesses sought me out to paint an accent wall or two. At one time I was painting sweatshirts because that was the big thing. I have cut stained glass in the kitchen only to hear everyone screaming when they stepped on a sliver of glass, so that did not last long. But I never had a job where art was my main focus.
For the last five years I have not had to work outside our home. My time has been spent painting, learning mixed media and watercolor, making necklaces, creating cards, magnets, bookmarks and painting wood signs. I have learned about participating in craft fairs and selling to small business. Online classes such as Lilla Rogers Make Art that Sells – Mats A and Rachel Taylor Make it in Design Module 1, Module 2, and Module3 have taken center stage. I have taken the The Ultimate Portfolio Builder but this was the first one I took, I jumped in with both feet…..and then I thought ah, maybe you should start at the beginning. So I will probably take this one again. I have also participated in Summer School 2015 and 2016.
My focus now is to create surface patten designs and sell or license these designs to companies. I hope to be able to attend a show next year, Surtex or Printsource. That would be amazing!
I don’t believe that God would have given me this desire to create and design only to keep it to myself. My hope is that my designs will take a person back to a great place in their childhood or that wonderful place they visited. I draw inspiration from flowers, my love for animals and just breathing in the beauty that surrounds us everyday. Color plays a big part in my drawings. There are no set of colors that I use all the time. I know this sounds odd, but I feel color. A lot of my wardrobe have pinks, yellows, blues in them because these colors make me feel happy. My bedroom articles have navy blue, white and soft grays because they make me feel comfortable. I love elegant designs at times and then other times I love happy crazy designs. Its all a feeling to me.
I hope you enjoy my designs. And I hope that I get to meet you along this journey, until then – make your day ridiculously amazing!
